Ikuru Tasks Physically-Challenged On Productivity
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has charged physically challenged persons to see themselves as productive and worthy of dignity like others in the society.
Engr. Ikuru gave this charge Wednesday during the 6th Annual Charity Feast organised by the Truevine Women International Outreach at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt.
“Your disability does not reduce you from being a human being. There is ability in disability,” Engr. Ikuru reiterated, saying that physically challenged persons are human beings who were capable of performing any function like any other person in the society.
He assured them of God’s presence in their lives if only they remain close to God, noting that their disability should draw them close to God as every person has his or her “evil day” which manifests in diverse forms, enjoining people to prepare for their “evil days” by being committed to prayers and good deeds.
Speaking at the occasion, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Magnus Abe, commended the gesture by Truevine International Outreach, saying such initiatives touch the lives of individuals positively, and called on all to emulate them in order to reach a greater part of the society.
In his sermon titled “The love of Christ,” Rev Roland Briggs, explained that true love is not superficial but sacrificial and forbearing, counselling the people to emulate God’s love by demonstrating love towards their neighbours. He remarked that the gospel can only be effectual when it is backed by love.
Earlier, President of the Truevine Women International Outreach, Pastor Ene Secondus, had said that the Charity Feast is predicated on the organisation’s commitment to put smiles on the faces of people irrespective of their background, saying that it is a demonstration of God’s love to mankind.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of Humanitarian Ambassador awards to the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, and the SSG, Hon. Magnus Abe, and the presentation of a framed photograph of the Deputy Governor and his wife, Dr Mina Ikuru, by a physically challenged photographer, Mr Onyinye Amadi.
