Nigerian Engineers, Samsung Enter Into Sponsorship Agreement
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Samsung Electronics West Africa Ltd.
Under the sponsorship agreement, Samsung is expected to sponsor all programmes of the NSE for the next one year, followed by an annual renewal.
Samsung is also expected to pay NSE N15 million every year for the duration of the sponsorship deal.
The President of NSE, Mr Ademola Olorunfemi signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the NSE.
Olorunfemi said that the sponsorship deal would provide a platform to help build the capacity of Nigerian engineers and students of engineering in tertiary institutions.
“Part of our responsibility is to ensure that we have partnership with other organisations that can assist us in fulfilling our mandate.
“Samsung sponsorship is going to increase entrepreneurship by our members and enhance the work of our colleagues who are into research.
“We would look at what Samsung is doing so that we can share experience and learn from them. For us, this is something of a very huge potential,” he said.
In a remark, the Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa Ltd., Mr Brovo Kim said the partnership was aimed at creating opportunities for both partners.
“Samsung’s core value is people. This collaboration has the potential to unlock fresh opportunities to grow the technological base of Nigeria.
“We are here to make a commitment to the NSE to show how much we value their contributions to national development,’’ Brovo said.
The sponsorship agreement entails Samsung’s provision of annual training for 80 NSE members on information and computer technology.
Samsung is also expected to organise industrial training for students’ engineers at its factory and it will have rights to exhibit its products at the forthcoming World Engineering Conference to be hosted in Nigeria.
