Tinubu Felicitates Umahi @63, Says Works Minister Outstanding
President Bola Tinubu has hailed the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, as one of the most outstanding performers in his cabinet, crediting the former Ebonyi State governor with driving an aggressive nationwide road and bridge construction programme that is strengthening Nigeria’s infrastructure backbone and supporting economic growth.
The President, in a birthday tribute marking Engineer Umahi’s 63rd birthday on July 25, praised the Minister’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure, saying his hands-on supervision of projects across the country has become a defining feature of the administration’s infrastructure agenda.
In a State House statement issued on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Engineer Umahi as a hardworking, result-oriented public servant whose dedication to quality project delivery has earned him national recognition.
The president said the Works Minister has distinguished himself by personally inspecting ongoing construction projects nationwide rather than relying solely on reports from ministry officials, a leadership style he said has ensured strict compliance with approved engineering specifications and standards.
“Engineer Umahi has been one of my outstanding, hardworking ministers—passionate about the job and delivering durable roads and bridges that will last for about a century,” President Tinubu said.
The president added that the Minister’s frequent visits to project sites underscore his determination to ensure value for public funds and timely completion of critical infrastructure.
“As a minister, he does not just sit in his office or rely on reports from his surbodinates, personally monitoring construction work nationwide to ensure compliance with specifications and approvals”, the president said.
President Tinubu also charged Engineer Umahi to intensify the pace of road construction, rehabilitation and completion of federal highway projects, stressing that modern transport infrastructure remains a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda for improving citizens’ quality of life, reducing travel time, stimulating commerce and expanding economic opportunities.
The president recalled that before his appointment as Minister of Works, Engineer Umahi represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly after serving two consecutive terms as Governor of Ebonyi State from May 2015 to May 2023, a period during which the state recorded extensive infrastructure development.
Congratulating the Minister, the president wished him continued good health, strength and wisdom as he leads the Federal Ministry of Works in delivering strategic infrastructure projects considered vital to Nigeria’s long-term economic development.

Tinubu Flags Off 2027 Re-election Campaign In Kaduna
The campaign rally, held at the Kaduna Township Stadium, attracted Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, party leaders, federal and state lawmakers, political stakeholders and supporters from across the country.
The flag-off marks the beginning of the APC’s drive to secure a second presidential term for President Tinubu, with the party expected to promote its achievements, defend its economic reforms and outline its policy priorities under the proposed Renewed Hope 2.0 agenda.
Kaduna’s selection for the campaign launch underscores the strategic importance of the North-West, a region with a substantial voting population and considerable influence on presidential election outcomes.
The APC faces a significant challenge in Kaduna, where the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, defeated President Tinubu in the 2023 election. The rally therefore provides the ruling party an opportunity to strengthen its grassroots structures and regain electoral support in the state.
Addressing supporters, Vice-President Shettima appealed to Northern voters, highlighting President Tinubu’s political relationships with prominent Northern leaders, including Alhaji Abubakar, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Vice-President’s appeal reflects the APC’s determination to consolidate its support in the North as the party intensifies preparations for the presidential contest.
The Renewed Hope 2.0 agenda is expected to feature prominently in the campaign, providing a platform for President Tinubu to explain his administration’s economic policies and outline plans for another term.
However, the President’s record on economic reforms, rising living costs, petrol prices, employment, infrastructure and insecurity is expected to attract considerable scrutiny during the electioneering period.
