Acting D-G Appointment: ATSSAN Faults FG
Aviation workers under
the umbrella of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN) has critised the appointment of an Acting Director-General for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The association send a letter to the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and made available to newsmen, titled: Demanded for a substantive director general for Nigerian Civil aviation Authority (NCAA). The workers union, said the act establishing the authority does not recognize the office of the NCAA DG in acting capacity.
According to ATSSAN, several legal and vital documents as well as activities are being performed now which may become issues of contention and litigations tomorrow.
ATSSAN said the aviation industry has suffered and still suffering from several kinds of decisions taken by the federal government under the six months tenure of acting director general of NCAA, prior to the confirmation of Captain Fola Akinkuotu, former DG of NCAA.
“A whole lot of money to remedy as damages for Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN/stadartin concession agreement and we cannot afford to fold our hands and allow more of same to happen again”, the workers union said.
The union said it is aware that the director general of NCAA, as the number one policemen of the aviation industry in Nigeria, must perform the responsibility with all administrative and legal authority and power which can only be vested in a substantive director general.
The senior staff association reminded the SGF that the federal government through his office, announced the removal of the former DG of NCAA and some other chief executives of aviation agencies, while others have resumed to perform their responsibilities, the DG designate of NCAA Capt. Mukthar Usman, whose name was supposed to be transmitted to the senate, till date is yet to resume office five months after the pronouncement.
The letter signed by Capt Tar Tanongo, Deputy General Secretary, ATSSAN, said the association is constrained but have to do what we have to do for the survival of the industry in general and NCAA orgnaisation in particular.
