Ebola Virus: Airline Operators Introduce Masks, Gloves
Arising from the re
cent death of a liberian in a private Hospital in Lagos and the confirmation by the federation government that one of the Doctors who attended to the late Patrick Sawyer had tested positive of the virus, the airline operators in Nigeria have been having sleepless nights on how to protect air crew members and passengers from getting infected.
The airline operators have therefore introduced the use of masks and gloves to check the upsurge of the virus that is easily contracted from an infected person.
Investigations showed that airline officials have been busy working on measures to ensure the safety of their passengers and crew members by the introduction of masks and gloves to be won by crew members for both local and international flights.
A source at one of the airlines said the reason is to reduce the risk of spreading or contracting the disease by covering their mouth and noses.
According to the source, “We are concerned because this Ebola issue is a serious one and all eyes are on the aviation industry. We the operators are on our toes also because it is risky for our officials who are on duty on a daily basis. The issues of glove may soon be mandatory for everybody and we are still looking at other options.”
It would be recalled that since the death of the Liberian in Lagos, and the confirmation by the Health Minister Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu that the female Doctor who treated the late Sawyer had contracted the virus Nigerians have become apprehensive on how to protect themselves from the deadly disease.
