Board To Shore Up Rivers Revenue Base
A member of the newly constituted Board of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Services (RIRS), Sir Nelson Wali, has assured the commitment of the board to shore up the revenue base of the state to meet up development challenges.
Wali, who is Board Member one at the revenue outfit gave the assurance, at the headquarters of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, during the inauguration of the Obio/Akpor chapter of a youth-based political pressure group, Patriotic Youth Leadership Network. (PTLN).
He expressed confidence in the composition of the new board and assured that attention would be given to tax areas previously neglected to boost the internally generated revenue profile of the state.
The Board member called on Corporate Organisations and Private individuals doing business in the state to pay their taxes accordingly and warned against tax evasion.
Wali who is a shrewed financial administrator also stated that staff training would be given priority attention to functionally equip the workers of the Board to discharge their duties effectively.
Commenting on the inauguration of the Youth body Wali, applauded the body over its promotion of good governance in Rivers State and Nigeria in general.
He called on Youths in Obio/Akpor and Rivers state in general to be engaged in productive ventures and resist being used as things by politicians. He also called on the Youths to mobilize themselves through intense grassroots involvement to promote good governance in the state as exemplified by the leadership qualities of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
Earlier, the Cordinator of the Obio/Akpor Chapter of the body, Engr. Nwakaohu Samuel, had stated that the body would be committed to objectives of good governance and the vision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
