NES Wants Commitment To Provision Of Clean Water
The National President
of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Mr Olu Ander Wai Ogosu has called on governments in the country to be more committed towards the provision of clean water to the citizenry.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Mr Ogosu attributed the increasing cases of waterborne diseases in the country to lack of potable drinking water in the country, stressing that governments at all levels must commit sufficient amount of their budgetary provision to the provision of water for their people.
The NES president also decried the proliferation of boreholes in some cities especially Port Harcourt and urged the Rivers State Government to revive the public water works at Benard carr Street, Rumuola and Borikiri to provide clean water for the people.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has condemned the increasing cases of illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.
The President of the society Mr Olu Ogosu said that the situation is destroying the Niger Delta environment.
He said that the various security agencies must work together to check the trend, while those involve must look for legitimate means of earning their livelihood.
According to him, apart from the destruction of the environment, illegal oil bunkering is also effecting the economy of the nation.
“Government must look for solution to this problem security, agencies must work together to contain the activities of illegal oil bunkers, he said.
