NAOC Donates Classroom Block To Community
In a bid to complement
government efforts towards boosting conducive learning environment in their host communities, the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners have inaugurated a six classroom block in Akudonu-Biseni community, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Speaking recently at the occasion in Biseni, the NAOC General Manager, District, Paolo Carnevate represented by the Public Relations, Communication and Government Laison Manager, Sir Dan Onyeaghala, said that the choice for classroom block was informed by the importance NAOC attaches to education and manpower development in their host communities.
According to him, the project will go a long way in improving the learning environment of the students and strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the Akudonu-Biseni people and the company.
He enjoined them to continue to provide a peaceful and conducive business environment that would promote oil operation in the area.
The representative of the Yenagoa Local Government Council, Director of Administration and General Services, Dr Ovienadu Toruteim, commended NAOC for complementing the restoration agenda of the state government in education, noting that government has distributed free school uniforms to schools and that free books are also on the way for distribution.
He charged the community to check the infiltration of criminals and destitute who would like to make the classrooms their bedrooms.
The Bayelsa State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Head of Human Resources, Okene Simon Peter, used the opportunity to appeal to the company to extend such projects to other communities in the state.
The Chairman, Community Development Committee, Owuga Christopher, while thanking Agip, observed that there was need to install a borehole and fans to enable students flush the waste collector freely.
In his vote of thanks, the Paramount Ruler, HRH M.M. Enedima, called for the improvement of education by all stakeholders, and appealed for more projects in the area as well as linking the community electricity line to the national grid.
