Eleme Wins Gov’s Debate Competition
Eleme Local Government
Area has emerged winner of the third edition of the Annual Governor’s Debate Competition held last Saturday at Saint Andrew’s Primary School, Port Harcourt.
Representative of Eleme Local Government Area, Ambassador Inne Kurubo Model School clinched the first position of the junior and senior categories of the contest by defeating Abua/Odual and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas, in the junior and senior categories respectively.
The second position at the senior category was won by Abua/Odual while the third place was won by Emohua. At the senior category, Port Harcourt City emerged second position while third position went to Emohua.
The theme of this year’s edition was, “Education: Key to Nation Building” and the topic for the junior category grand finale was ‘Private Schools In Rivers, Necessary Evil’ while the senior category grand finale’s topic was ‘Nigeria; A Nation Without Oil.”
Winner of the first position at each of the categories goes home with N150,000 cash, an I pad and scholarship, second position goes home with N100,000, laptop and scholarship while the third place clinches N80.000 cash, books and scholarship. The prize for best speaker at the junior category went to Campbell Omuboye of CSS, Amadi Ama while Miss Joyce Nwanochi representing Eleme Local Government Area won the best speaker award for the senior category.
The Special Adviser to Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Victoria Anyanwu said the trophies would be presented to the winners in due course at the Civic Centre by His Excellency, Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Chairman of Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board, Chief Allwel Onyeso who chaired the event commended the participants and recommended that the competition should be sustained.
He lauded the Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi for initiating the contest and challenged the teachers to pay attention to the common mistakes made by the students for better performance.
