Edo Assures Of Providing Affordable Housing
The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing affordable houses for residents of the state.
The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Henry Idahagbon, made the pledge when he received members of the Builders Infrastructure Development Association in Benin.
He said that government was aware of the acute housing problem facing the people and was determined to provide affordable housing for the people.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Osayande Edosa, appealed for government’s support in the effort of the association to acquire land to build a house for its office complex.
He said the association was ready to partner with the State Government to realise its dream of addressing the housing shortage in the state.
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria estimates that Nigeria needs 16 million housing units to meets its housing needs.
According to the bank about N56 trillion is needed to meet Nigeria’s housing needs.
It said the figure was based on a conservative cost of N3.5 million for the construction of one housing unit.
