NGO Empowers 150 Youths In Delta
A Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO), Concerned Women and Youth Empowerment in Delta State, said it had so far empowered 150 youths in the state.
Executive Director of the NGO, Mrs Tessy Nwaezeapu who disclosed this in an interview in Asaba on Sunday said the youths who were selected from three local government areas (LGAs) of the state were trained in catering, soap making and popcorn-making.
Nwaezeapu said the youths were from Agbor in Ika North East, and Sapele and Isoko South LGAs.
The executive director said the essence of the training was to reduce unemployment, as well as help check youth restiveness in the state.
She also disclosed that apart from the youth empowerment programmes, the NGO had been organising series of seminars on how to check youth restiveness.
“The NGO has also embarked on an enlightenment campaign on issues relating to women’s health, child protection and capacity-building,’’ the executive director said.
She said further that the organisation had in the last one year been able to empower women in the area of 35 per cent as stipulated by the Women Affirmative Action.
“The essence of empowering the women through the 35 per cent affirmative action was to encourage women in the State to go for elective positions,” the executive director said adding that the programme was funded by USAID.
