FAAN Fulfills Promise To Workers
The Management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), under the leadership of the Managing Director, Mr George Uriesi has fulfilled the promise made to workers of the establishment by providing brand new cars to the senior officers.
The Head, Corporate Communications Mr Ola Ogundolapo disclosed the receipt of the vehicles to The Tide in an interaction in his office at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Tuesday.
Mr Ogundolapo who also benefitted from the largesse said it was the first time in the history of FAAN that staff had been given this kind of cars to facilitate their work and encourage them to put in their best.
He explained that the gesture was extended to staff of the establishment throughout the country, noting that about 12 senior officers benefitted from the Port Harcourt office.
According to him, the Regional General Manager was given brand new Toyota Avenues, Deputy General Managers, got 1.8 Toyota Corolla brand-new car while the Assistant General Managers cadre received Toyota Corolla 1.6 brand, adding that on retirement the staff goes home with the car.
The Head of Corporate Communications also told newsmen that several persons whose promotions were pending received their letters to the next level.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries Mr Ogundolapo expressed happiness with the current management of FAAN for the gesture which was the first time the promise was fulfilled to the workers.
He noted that the incentive would spur the workforce to put in their best in the discharge of their duties in line with the repositioning of the establishment for better service delivery.
Meanwhile, the Head of Corporate Communi-cations, FAAN, denied insinuations in some quarters that Tuesday’s anti Amaechi protest by some youths of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at the airport disrupted flight operations, pointing out that the protest was at the Protocol Lounge gate and not at the terminal area.
He however, explained that officials of the Authority and Security agencies were on hand and quickly took control of the situation and restored normalcy.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
