GPH: Administrator Seeks Documentation For Final Compensation
The administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, has assured Omuoda-Aluu community of Government’s willingness to compensate land owners for the New City project.
This will be done after physical verification and proper documentation,” the administrator said.
Leaders of Omuoda-Aluu and their lawyer, Barrister Nwabueze Amadi, met with the administrator Friday to resolve issues of compensation.
Cookey-Gam emphasized that Rivers State Governemnt had paid several claims, adding that Omuoda and Aluu communities have received not less than N1.5 billion compensation for lands acquired by the authority.
At a meeting among the administrator, Cookey-Gam, officials of the authority, Surveyor Richard Madume of the State Ministry of Lands and Survey and Omuoda Aluu Community leader, Sir Innocent Azutah, it was agreed that it was necessary to resolve all the problems arising from poor documentation as well as conflicting claims and several litigations which have bogged down the process, making it difficult for claims to be ascertained, and verified and compensation to be paid.
Cookey-Gam charged the surveyors and claimant lawyers to furnish her office with accurate documentation so that the members of the Omuoda Aluu could be paid compensation for lands acquired. It was agreed by all parties that by 22nd July 2013, by which time the authority will be furnished with necessary surveys and documentation.
She appealed to Omuoda-Aluu and other GPCDA host communities to co-operate and partner with the authority.
