4,000 Get Relief Materials In C’River
Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke has provided relief materials to over 4,000 persons displaced in Adadama Community in Abi Local Government Area following the recent attack on the community by their neighbours in Amagu community of Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State.
Delivering the materials on behalf of the governor last Thursday, Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Vincent Aquah, said the gesture was meant to cushion the effect of the displacement.
Aquah assured the people that the state was working in collaboration with the Federal Government to solve the protracted crisis.
The Director-General emphasised that all relevant MDAs had been mobilised to address all the of needs of the IDPs particularly on health in the various camps and advised the displaced people to cooperate with the host communities.
Receiving the materials on behalf of the people, chairman of the Local Relief Distribution Committee, Mr. Francis Ettah, assured the government that the materials would be judiciously distributed to the beneficiaries.
Ettah, who is also the Chairman of Abi LGA, expressed hope that the problem would be resolved soon to enable the people to return to their homes.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency in the South-South zone, Mr. Umesi Emenike, has expressed sympathy with the new Bakassi returnees at the Ikot Eyo Edem camp in Akpabuyo LGA of the state.
Emenike, who was speaking during an assessment visit to the camp, said the pathetic condition in which the returnees were experiencing in the camp needed to be urgently addressed.
He promised that within the shortest possible time, the Federal Government through NEMA would deliver relief materials to the victims.
The zonal coordinator commended Imoke for his prompt intervention in the plight of the people, noting that the recurrent situation was mounting heavy burden on the state economy.
He urged Nigerians still living in the ceded part of Bakassi to reconsider their positions and choose between Nigeria and Cameroon as their place of abode to avoid unpalatable situations.
