Network Hails Women’s Entrepreneurial Acumen
The President of Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), Mrs Lola Okanlawon, says women will take over many businesses in Nigeria by 2017.
Okanlawon made the observation in an interview with newsmen in Lagos yesterday.
She said Nigerian women were naturally enterprising and had the capacity to establish large business ventures.
“Nigerian women are naturally enterprising and with facilities being put in place, they can take over large business ventures in the country in the next five years.
“Gone are the days when women would spend money from their businesses on clothes, they are wiser now.
“NNEW has been organising workshops in accounting and record keeping, tax settlement, calculations and supplying for multinational companies and export opportunities for them to develop their skills.
“This is to ensure that women are ready for the course ahead and not just sit and lament on lack of access to funds alone,” she said.
Okanlawon said the delay in the disbursement of the N100 billion intervention funds by the central bank was a blessing as it afforded women the opportunity to prepare ways to utilise the loans.
“We are preparing our women to be abreast with the necessary skills to handle finance and we believe they are worthy of it,” she said.
Okanlawon urged the Federal Government to make the necessary arrangement for the disbursement of the loans to enable women achieve the objectives.
