Bayelsa To Commence Water Reticulation
Bayelsa State Government has concluded plans for the reticulation of pipe borne water to all the Local Government Areas of the State.
The State commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Dein Benadoumene, who stated this while conducting Journalists on a project tour of his Ministry, said that this is a follow up to the rehabilitation and upgrading of the eight existing water projects in Yenagoa, the state capital.
During the project tour, which was part of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson’s one year anniversary, the Water Resources Commissioner explained that his ministry expended about N600 million for the rehabilitation of existing water projects in 2012.
Hon. Benadoumene explained that the State Government has increased the water supply in the state capital, especially the Ovom water works which has moved up from 380,000 to 750,000 litres per day.
At the Okaka main water works, which produces one million litres per day, the commissioner took the media team round the treatment and filter facilities where he pleaded with Bayelsans to be patient as efforts were being intensified to put it in full use.
Government, according to him is also embarking on the provision of water for 13 land-locked rural communities in the state as part of the Restoration agenda of the present administration to provide potable drinking water for the citizenry.
The commissioner went on to list some of the projects completed by his ministry to include dedicated water scheme for the new secretariat complex, old and new House of Assembly quarters’ water projects, as well as new commissioners’ quarters and the Government House water project.
According to Hon. Benadoumene, the ministry has so far completed a total of 13 projects, while others are on-going ones.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the tour by the General Manager of the State Water Board, Mr. Awo Ogunmowa.
