Delta Plans Housing Scheme For Public Servants
Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Chief Kenneth Okpara, says the state government will soon embark on housing schemes for public servants on owner-occupier basis.
According to the commissioner, the project will address the housing challenge being faced by civil servants in the state.
Okpara said in Asaba that government had concluded plans to introduce a social housing policy, adding that the thrust policy of the current administration was to provide qualitative and affordable houses to low, medium and high income earners.
Okpara said that the policy would be end-user driven and to be facilitated by development agents through public private partnership agreement, adding that with the partnership arrangement, modern housing estates would be delivered in the state.
He said when the policy was fully implemented, it would help to consolidate and sustain the tempo of housing reforms.
The commissioner also said that government had concluded plans to construct estates in its three senatorial districts.
“These estates, when completed, would go a long way in addressing the challenge of housing faced by civil servants. “The state is proposing N1 billion for this projects and this amount has been captured in the 2013 budget of the state,’’ he said.
He added that the state government had also concluded plans to construct rural housing schemes in three local government areas.
Okpara said the schemes would be located at Ozoro in Isoko North, Ibusa in Oshimili North and Abigbrodo in Warri North local government areas.
