Commissioner Urges TRCN To Check Quacks
The Commissioner for Education, Ekiti State, Dr Eniola Ajayi, has advised the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to check quacks in the teaching profession.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Information of TRCN, Mr Ojewuyi Muyiwa, on Wednesday in Abuja.
It quoted Ajayi as giving the advise at a capacity building workshop organised by the Council in Ekiti State.
The commissioner charged the council not to relent in its efforts at ensuring that only registered and licensed teachers were allowed to teach in schools across the country.
Ajayi, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Foluke Adeyemi, said the TRCN had put in place machinery which would check the infiltration of the teaching profession by quacks in the nation’s education system.
He also stressed that restoring the lost glory of the teaching profession in Nigeria was a collective responsibility.
According to him, relevant government agencies must work harmoniously to achieve set goals.
Also, the Registrar of the Council, Prof. Addison-Mark Wokocha, said the decision of TRCN to organise the workshop was part of its strategies at appreciating the contributions of the state to the professionalisation of teaching in Nigeria.
He said the workshop had earlier been given to other states which showed similar high level of zeal and compliance.
He added that it was a thing of joy that Ekiti enlisted itself among such notable states.
Wokocha added that, in addition to the workshop, a brand new Hilux Toyota Van was purchased for the TRCN office in the state to serve the teachers better.
