RSG Set To Commission Buguma Fish Farm
The Rivers State Government is set to commission the N1.5 billion fish farm in Buguma headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, before the end of this month.
The farm which produces 1000 tons of fish daily is being constructed in an Israeli firm Onida international.
The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on quaculture and Deep-sea Fishing, Hon. Kurotamuno Briggs who said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt stated that work will soon commence on the fish farms in Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas.
Briggs further said that the government is developing the deep-sea sector to provide enough fish for the state, and also creat employment opportunities for youths in the state.
The Special Adviser said that government is diversifying the economy from relying on Agriculture, pointing out that completion of all these projects will make Rivers State the fishing hub of the nation.
Hon. Briggs noted the state government’s commitment to ensure that all the fish farm, have necessary infrastructure such as road for the evacuation of the fishes to urban centers, adding that the private sector will be encouraged to establish fishery processing industries in the state.
He said that the realisation of these lofty programmes require the support and cooperation of the people of the state and cautioned youths against taking laws into their hands.
