NUJ Charges RSIEC On Voters’ Sensitisation
The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has called on the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to embark on enlightenment of voters across the state so as to bring an end to voter apathy.
State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Opaka Dokubo made the call when the newly inaugurated Chairman and Commissioner of RSIEC paid him a courtesy call at the Union’s Temporary Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He pledged the readiness of journalists in the state to cooperate with RSIEC by ensuring that they report the activities of the Commission in line with the best professional practices.
The NUJ Chairman said, “We are happy that you are carrying journalists in the state along. In fact, you have started very well by deeming it wise to bring us closer. The only way we can repay you is to be professional in all our reportage.”
Earlier, RSIEC Chairman, Professor Augustine Ahiazu said they had come to solicit for the support of journalist in the state, the kind that was extended to the previous commission.
