IMSU Admits 1,305 Students
The Commissioner for Education in Imo, Dr Adaobi Obasi, said that 1,305 indigenes were offered admission by the state-owned university in 2012/2013 academic session
Obasi told newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday the figure represents 92 per cent of the total admission of 1,410 offered admission for the session.
She said that the clarification became necessary because of speculations that only 30 per cent of indigenes were offered admission by the university.
The commissioner said that the university had admission modality and would not go contrary to it.
She explained further that the institution’s admission exercise was usually controlled by the university senate and regulated in accordance with the National Universities Commission (NUC) admission policy.
Obasi said that there was no plot by any person or group of persons to deny any Imo indigene admission into the university as being speculated.
She said that education remained the top priority of the present administration in the state.
Obasi said that the state government had concluded plans to extend its free education programme to tertiary institutions, adding that the ministry had put measures in place to monitor the process.
She announced that some school principals in the state had been sanctioned for collecting money from some students to sign free education forms for them.
