Students of Opobo/Nkoro origin have again been
admonished  to take their  studies serious even as  they place premium on hard work and dedication
above other considerations.

The Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. Maclean
Bethel Uranta, made the call in Opobo Town, while inaugurating the newly
constituted executive body of National Union of Opobo/Nkoro Students.

Hon. Uranta advised the students to shun divisive tendencies
and always exhibit characters and attitudes that would show the unity of the
area though made up of two ethnic nationalities.

The council chairman said that the coming on board of a
national body for students of the local government area is not intended to
water down the different existing unions of students  of Opobo and Nkoro origins, but it is  aimed to create a platform for unifying and
synergizing  the activities  and programmes in a common front saying that
it is this newly inaugurated body that council would deal with on matters that
relate to students of the area.

Hon. Uranta charged the new body to prepare and submit to
his office a verifiable  and authentic
list of students  of the area for council
to commence the payment of bursary to them.

The council however, warned the students to refrain from
allowing unionism to get into their heads where they will throw away the tenets
of cultural value and hard work.

The newly constituted body has Ezekiel Wogu Dappa, as
President, Miss. Obiebeleye Ngerebo as Vice President, Peter T. Wilson,
Secretary General, Bestman Silas Dokubo,
among others.

In another development, the people of Opobo/Nkoro have
called on the  state government and
multi-national companies to  always
recognize their peaceful disposition  and
act accordingly by making them  enjoy
them dividends of not vandalizing or encroaching on pipelines on other vices
inimical to the  economy and the
environment.

The people made their position known when the Committee for
the Protection and Preservation of Oil and Gas Pipeline Right of Way came to the
area for a sensitization visit.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee and leader of the
team, Charles George, enumerated the advantages
of not engaging in economic
crimes  like pipeline  encroachment and vendalisation, calling on
the people to always protect oil and gas installations in their area.

In his remarks the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government
Area, Hon. Maclean Bethel Uranta, assured the Committee of the  protection of all oil facilities on
government project in the area, commending
the Committee for a job well done but emphasizing the need for adequate
employment  and provision of skills
acquisition centres for the people by multi nationals operating in the area.
