Legal Battle Over Eze Ndigbo Title Begins, July 7
Hearing will begin on July 7 in a Lagos High Court, in a suit brought by 14 Eze Ndigbo title holders against the Lagos State government for banning the title in the state.
Justice Mohammed Sani last Tuesday adjourned the case to July 7 after Eze Ndigbo of Lagos factional leader, Dr. Christian Nwachukwu filed an application praying the court to join him as a defendant against the Lagos State government on the ban of the title in the state.
The application, Nwachukwu said, will enable him make clarification on the issue that will assist the court to determine the case.
At last Tuesday’s sitting counsel to Nwachukwu, Victor Ngene told the court that the application had just been filed and other parties in the case had not been served.
He, therefore, pleaded for a short adjournment in order to serve the parties involved. The two lawyers, Gabriel Okeke, representing one of the defendants and C. Okwaruba, for the plaintiff, did not object to the request for adjournment.
It would be recalled that the Lagos government, after a representation from traditional ruler from the South East geo-political zone banned the use of Eze Ndigbo title in Lagos.
