Forum Pledges To Partner Police On Insecurity
The Association of Akwa Ibom Village Chairmen forum (ASSAVIC), has emphasised its readiness to partner with the Nigerian Police in the state to fight insecurity in their domains.
The President of the forum, Mr Godwin Ntia, made the pledge at the inauguration of the Police and Village Chairmen Community Relations Committee in Eket.
Ntia said: “the forum is a Non Governmental and Non Profit making organisation. “It has the mandate to compliment the efforts of the security agencies in tackling the security challenges facing the nation.’’
He said the forum was determined to partner with royal fathers, leaders of thought and government agencies, among others, in ensuring the protection of lives and property in the society.
Ntia said the present security situation in the country had threatened the basic foundation and peaceful co-existence in the country.
The president condemned a situation where police, innocent Nigerians, political aspirants and security personnel were being murdered while performing their constitutional responsibilities.
Ntia called on village council chairmen of ASSAVIC to join hands together to fight against criminals, because they were forces of darkness in the state and the nation at large.
The Eket chapter of the Police and the village chairmen community relations committee was inaugurated to oversee its activities.
The officers are Mr Okon Brownson Uko, Chairman, Mr Uwem Essien, Vice Chairman, Pastor Assam Nsudo, Secretary and Mr Samuel Ekanem, Assistant Secretary among others.
A Legal Practitioner, who inaugurated the executive of the association, Chief Akpan Michael Akpa, advised them to always assist the police to secure and maintain peace.
The Divisional Police Officer in the Area, Mr Alabi Adewale, stressed the need for the village council chairmen to partner with the police by reporting suspicious activities to the police.
Adewale assured the people of Eket that he would collaborate with the royal fathers and village council chairmen to maintain law and other in the area.
