Six Pirates Killed In Bayelsa
The Joint Taskforce in the Niger Delta, otherwise known as “Operation Pulo Shield” is leaving no stone unturned in curbing the activities of sea pirates in the region.
The Tide correspondent gathered that the taskforce recently killed six suspected pirates along Agge, in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State while patrolling Rivers Ramos.
It was gathered that the hoodlums numbering seven were attempting to carrying out their nefarious activities at about 5pm of that fateful day before they sighted the joint taskforce boat approaching them.
Our correspondent learnt that on sighting the JTF, the bandits opened fire and the soldiers retaliated swiftly, killing six out of the seven-man gang during the gun dual.
The source hinted that one of the suspected pirates excaped with gunshot injuries, while a serious manhunt to arrest the fleeing suspect was in progress.
It was further gathered that the JTF recovered the 200 horse-powered speed boat used by the hoodlums as well as two guns, seven mobile phones of different models, two hard saws and three hard-saw blades.
The taskforce also recovered four wraps of substances suspected to be Indian heap.
Efforts by our correspondent to confirm the story from the JTF media co-ordinator in the region, Lt Col. Onyema Nwachukwu prove abortive.
