Institute Seeks e-Payment Programme Portal
The President, Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON), Dr Chris Uwaje, has urged the Federal Government to create electronic invoicing portal on the Internet for its e-payment programme.
Uwaje said in Lagos last week that such step would enable the government to monitor compliance of e-payment transactions by the Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
“The Federal Government should introduce e-governance to the three tiers of government to eliminate corruption and waste,” he suggested.
Uwaje said that the introduction of e-governance would also enable the MDAs to pay their contractors and workers salaries.
According to him, having a designated portal for government transactions will also allow citizens to monitor the ongoing projects across the country.
The IT expert said that this would improve e-governance since Nigerians would now have access to the government’s contents on the web.
He said that e-governance would bring the activities and operations of government closer to the people since Nigerians presently preferred going to the Internet for valuable contents.
Uwaje recommended a reassessment of the country’s state of e-government preparedness and proactive step at developing human resources capabilities aimed at achieving high level of computer literacy for Nigerians.
He said that the gains of e-governance would not be actualised with high level of computer illiteracy, especially in the rural areas.
Uwaje advised government to introduce computer literacy in the educational curricula of various primary, post-primary and tertiary institutions.
