Honour Agreement, SSANU Tells FG
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Monday urged the Federal Government to implement the agreement it entered into with the union in 2009, to prevent a strike.
The Chairman of the Lagos State University chapter of SSANU, Mrs Funmi Sessi, told newsmen in Lagos. that the implementation of that agreement would further demonstrate government commitment to
the development of education.
According to her, part of the agreement is the extension of retirement age of SSANU members from 60 years to 65 years.
She noted that although the union gave an ultimatum in December 2011, it expired on March 29.
“We know the importance of members of the union in any university. It is clear that it is the experience and efforts of members of SSANU that have prevented universities from total collapse over the years.”
Sessi said that the Western zone of the union would hold a meeting on April 12 to discuss the next line of action.
