FAAN Boss Explains Re-Modelling Of Airport
The additional car parks and ring roads being constructed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja would ease traffic congestion at the airport.
The Regional General Manager, North Central of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN), Mr Chris Bature, made this known last Saturday in Lagos.
According to him, the relocation of all flights operations to the international wing of the airport is due to the remodelling work on the local terminal.
Bature, however, warned that the FAAN management would sanction those drivers, who pick and drop passengers at the airport without recourse to other road users.
He said that a special unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps would be stationed at the airport to help to restore sanity.
“We want to ensure that discipline is brought to bear on operations in the airport because part of the problems confronting the airport are impatient and indiscipline”.
He expressed regrets that some public office holders exhibit “the big man mentality’’ as they come to the airport with 10 cars and would not want to park at the designated area.
The general manager said the remodelling of airport, when completed, would help generate revenue from non-aeronautical sources.
Bature noted that financial burden on the airlines would be reduced; pointing out that more offices would be available for business.
He said that the power systems at the airport were being upgraded for efficiency, adding that necessary measures had been taken to beef up security of passengers and visitors.
He said that passengers would not regret the sacrifice they had made while the construction lasted.
