Residents of Abakpa and Unguwar Shanu quarters in Kaduna State have decried decried the non-evacuation of refuse dump in the area.
The residents, who spoke with our correspondent on Saturday, expressed concern over the inability of the Kaduna State Government and the Kaduna North Local Government authority to remove the refuse dump in the area.
In his remarks, Jamilu Idris, a youth leader in the area, said the refuse constituted a health hazard to the residents as they were exposed to epidemics and diseases.
Another resident, Alhaji Lawal Ado, said that the refuse dump was forcing people to move out of the area due to reports of cholera outbreaks, among other health hazards.
Ado said that the monthly sanitation had become irrelevant since the refuse collected after clean up exercise was not cleared by the authorities.
Danjuma Hassan a civil servant, noted that polythene bags accounted for most the waste generated in the area and canvassed for the regulation of its usage.
The state Commissioner for Environment had said that government spends N96.6 million monthly on 49 waste management contractors.
