27 Rivers Sponsored UK PostGraduates Return
The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, has reemphasised that education is a top priority of the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, governor of Rivers State.
The commissioner stated this when Masters graduates sponsored to study in the United Kingdom (UK) by the Rivers State Government in 2009 were presented to her by the Rivers State Scholarship Board on their return from the UK.
Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, who received the students on behalf of the State government, said that the governor appreciated the importance of education in development of manpower for the State that was why government invested so much funds in the education of the students.
She commended the students for their hard work and good behaviour throughout their stay in the UK while urging them to apply the knowledge acquired to the benefit of society.
The commissioner pointed out that government sent them to study specific courses such as engineering courses.. project management, ICT, Oil and Gas, Medical Sciences amongst others because it knew that the State and country at large were in need of such services.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Rivers State Scholarship Board, Mr. Sam N. Deekue JP, had briefed the commissioner that 27 masters degree graduates had successfully completed their studies and were back in the country.
Mr. Sam Deekue who represented the chairman of the Rivers State Scholarship Board, Dr. Elechi Amadi, expressed joy that the students had passed with distinctions and credits in their chosen fields which were mainly in Oil and Gas, Engineering courses and ICT, adding that seven students bagged first class honours
He also said that the Board which was closely monitoring the students throughout their study in the UK, did not receive negative reports on them from their institutions neither,were they involved in any act that were inimical to the image of Rivers State or the country at large.
