The Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Vincent Nemieboka, have received a delegation of parents of students who qualified for his administration’s full scholarship programme at Charkin Maritime Academy over the weekend.
Chief Nemieboka said he was fulfilling promises made to the people and executing his duties as LGA Chairman, noting that he didn’t know the candidates personally, but was delighted they were all from Ogu/Bolo LGA and had qualified through the programme’s rigorous process.
He stated that his administration aimed to produce professionals in law, medicine, engineering, and maritime industries, and advised parents to encourage their children to be studious and respectful to school authorities.
The Ogu/Bolo Council Boss assured the parents that the council would promptly pay the students’ fees, including tuition, accommodation, feeding, and stipend, as modalities were being worked out for the programme’s full implementation.
Mr. Granville Atubokiki Michael, speaking on behalf of the benefiting parents, said the scholarship programme was a first for the LGA, praising its transparency and lack of politicization.
He said the chairman’s initiative had made it possible for parents to send their children to the institution, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the families.
Seven candidates qualified for the programme, which will enable them to study nautical and maritime engineering at Charkin Maritime Academy.
