Opposition Parties Accept Sekibo’s Victory
The opposition political parties in Rivers State, have described the senatorial rerun election in which Senator George Sekibo of the People Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner, as the best election ever conducted by the Independent National Electorial Commission (INEC) in Rivers State.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Chairman of National Social Democratic Party NSDP, Mr. Omah Ali who was spokesman of the opposition parties in the conference said, “this is the first time we’ve seen INEC conducting a free and fair election in Rivers State. “We followed the election from the beginning to the end and found that it was a perfect election. So we decided to come here today to tell members of the public” he stated.
The group further remarked that any person or group going to court because of the election was wasting his or her time as there was no need for such.
The opposition parties commended the Rivers State chairman of INEC, the police and all security agencies that took part in the conduct of the election for a wonderful work and recommended that INEC should always conduct such quality election for the growth of democracy in the country.
The group which was made up of leadership and representatives of the opposition political parties and members at the conference accepted defeat and commended the winner, Senator George Sekibo, adding that “in every fight, there must be a winner and we have accepted defeat and also want INEC to be conducting this kind of election.”
