MAN Hails RSG Over Taxes
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Rivers and Bayelsa States’ chapters has commended the Rivers State Government for its move to harmonize taxes and levies to encourage investments in the state.
The chairman of the group Mrs. Emilia E. Akpan who made the commendation recently at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Port Harcourt, said the harmonization would further reduce the challenges crippling the growth of manufacturing in the state.
Mrs Akpan appealed to the state government to fast-track the implementation of its promise toward harmonizing the taxes and levies.
The chairman also used the opportunity to commend the effort of the state Government on the ongoing mono-rail project saying that the project would boost transportation.
In his address the Rivers Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Hon Chinenye Chuma assured the group that the state government has concluded plans to implement its promise of harmonizing taxes in the state.
He said, apart from the harmonization of taxes, the state government was creating enabling environment such as steady power supply, good roads, security and good communication network to encourage more investments in the state.
The commissioner urged the manufacturers and other companies in the state to pay their taxes promptly.
He said government would only serve the masses better if laws were obeyed and complied with promptly.
Hon Chuma warned that the state government would not condone any companies and firms which disobey government orders by refusing to register with the state.
According to him many companies operating in the state still owed the state government huge sums of money.
