RSG Hands Over Two Model Schools To Navy Command
The Rivers State Government has handed over two model secondary schools to the Nigeria Navy Command for proper use.
Speaking during the official handover of two schools to the Nigerian Navy in his office at the State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt, last Monday, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedu Mmom stated that the release of the schools and their facilities to the Nigerian Navy was made after the Chief of Naval Staff applied for the schools to be used as Naval Training Schools in Port Harcourt.
Prof. Mmon named the two schools released to the command as Model Secondary School Egberu-Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State and Ambassador Nne Kurubo Model Secondary School in Ebubu-Eleme, in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He explained that the presence of the security personnel in these areas will strengthened the existing relationship with the government as well add value to the abandoned school facilities in these areas.
He hinted that the Governor Nyesom Wike’s infrastructural development cut across all sector, adding that the educational sector has not been left out.
“We are not left out in the educational sector, currently we have over 76 schools that have been remodelled and renovated by Rivers State Government and most of them will be handed over to the respective school authorities.
“The Rivers State University (RSU), which the governor saw that there was need to expand its scope, with courses like Medicine, Faculty of Sociology, and Humanities added tor the University to become a full conventional university, thereby changing the nomenclature from Rivers State Science and Technology (RSUST) to Rivers State University (RSU) and now we have College of Medicine and Health Sciences,” the commissioner added.
Responding on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu, assured that the two facilities will be put into very good use.
