Domestic Food Prices Remain High -World Bank

The World Bank says domestic food price inflation remains high across the world.
This is according to the latest Food Security Update report obtained from the World Bank website by The Tide source in Abuja, yesterday.
The report showed information from the latest month between October 2022 and February 2023 for which food price inflation data were available.
It showed high inflation in almost all low- and middle-income countries with inflation levels above five per cent in 88.21 per cent of low-income countries.
“Inflation in 93 per cent of lower-middle-income countries, and 89.0 per cent of upper-middle-income countries and many experiencing double-digit inflation.”
In addition, the report said about 85.7per cent of high-income countries were experiencing high food price inflation.
“The countries affected most are in Africa, North America, Latin America, South Asia, Europe, and Central Asia.”
It said according to a recent report from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the benchmark index of international food commodity prices declined for the 11th consecutive month in February 2023.
“The FAO Food Price Index averaged 129.8 points in February, a marginal 0.6 per cent decrease from January 2023 and an 18.7 per cent decrease from its peak in March 2022.”
Our courresponde t also recalls that the heads of FAO, IMF, World Bank Group, World Food Programme, and World Trade Organisation released a Third Joint statement on Feb 8.
The statement was to draw attention on the need to prevent a worsening of the food and nutrition security crisis, while further urgent actions are required to rescue hunger hotspots.
A call was also made to facilitate trade, improve the functioning of markets, and enhance the role of the private sector
It was also a call to reform and repurpose harmful subsidies with careful targeting and efficiency.
The executives also urged countries to balance short-term urgent interventions with longer-term resilience efforts as they respond to the crisis.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
