Police Arraign Six Over Affidavit Racketeering In Rivers Judiciary
Rivers State Police Command has arraigned six persons before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court on two counts bothering on alleged economic sabotage, forgery and printing of affidavit/public document racketeering.
The accused persons, who were arraigned, include Gift Godwin, Esther Monica-Sylvester, VirasiGbarabe, Irene Anthony, Comfort Jude and Mary Effiong, who are standing trial for alleged act of affidavit racketeering around the premises of the court along Station Road, Port Harcourt.
According to the charges, the activities of the suspects were causing loss of revenue to the state High Court, which according to the prosecution, amounted to an offence punishable under a section of the criminal law of Rivers State.
The police added that the arrest of the suspects, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, wasof part of the efforts of the administrative officers of High Court of the state.
Ruling on the matter, Presiding Chief Magistrate, Omonigho Nwibani, after listening to counsel representing the parties on bail application, adjourned till February 14, 2023 for bail consideration.
Nwibani, thereafter, ordered that the suspects be remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre till next adjourned date.
Recall that since the inception of the administration of Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, several persons have been arrested, and charged for the same offence.
