Partner Host Communities On Living Standard, NYSC Urges Corps Members
The Acting Director-General, N ational Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christy Ifeyinwa Uba, has urged Corps members to help in the upliftment of the living standard of the people of their host communities.
This, she said, can be achieved through the execution of personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects.
Speaking in an address to mark the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch C, Stream 2 Orientation Course Exercise nationwide, Uba noted that community development service projects as executed by corps members across the nation have contributed to the development of rural communities.
Represented by the Rivers State Coordinator of the scheme, George Mfongang, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai, yesterday, Uba enjoined the corps members to live in line with the objectives of the scheme by integrating fully into their host communities.
“You need to appreciate and respect the cultures of your host communities. This is one way you can be sure you are in line with the objectives of the NYSC scheme,” she stated.
While commending the corps members for their high sense of discipline, exemplary character and active participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme on camp, Uba charged them to avail themselves of the opportunities of post camp training in order to be empowered and self-reliant.
The Acting NYSC DG stressed the need for the corps members to be wary of acts capable of portraying the NYSC scheme in bad light .
She advised the corps members to not only be security conscious at all times, but avoid unauthorized journeys as well as night trips to stay safe through the service year.
A total of 1401 Corps Members successfully completed the 3-weeks orientation course exercise in the state.
