RSG Commences Activities For 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day
The Rivers State Government has commenced activities for the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day .
The activities commenced with the launching of the Emblem Appeal Fund at Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Other activities lined up for the event include a Jumat prayer holding on the 6th of January 2023 at the Port Harcourt Central Mosque, Niger Street, and an interdenominational church service at the All Saints Anglican Church, Rumuokwurush,i Diocese of Evo.
The celebration will be rounded up on the 15th of January 2023 with the laying of wreath at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, Port Harcourt, by the Executive Governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at an inaugural meeting in his office, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr.Tammy Danagogo, said the government was doing everything possible to ensure a hitch-free Armed Forces Remembrance Day on the 15th of January 2023.
Danagogo said the nation’s fallen military personnel, and those alive, need to be honoured inview of their contributions to the security and integrity of the nation.
He stressed the need for the various security agencies to properly mobilise their members for the event.
Danagogo also charged the legionairs in the state to ensure mass attendance at the event, while wives of ex-military men should be mobilised for the programme.
According to him, the event is strictly for military men, while legionairs will be around to back them up.
He said both the Directorate of State Security (DSS), the Police, National Civil Defense Corps (NCDC), and other paramilitary agencies have complementary roles to play.
He also said letters would be sent to the various agencies informing them of the programme and the various activities lined up.
The SSG commended the various agencies for the success of previous celebrations and urged all to mobilise for next year’s Remembrance Day.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed January 15, annually.
