PENGASSAN Urges Govt To Assist Flood Victims
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called on the federal and state governments to ensure the provision of palliatives and medical support for victims of flooding in Rivers State.
Chairman of the union, Port Harcourt Zone, Comrade Peter Chukwudi Onita, made the call during a recent visit and assessment of some affected areas.
Onita, in a statement he signed personally, said there is urgent need for government’s intervention.
He said many companies and oil flow stations in Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Ahoada West, Ahoada East in Rivers State, and also Bayelsa State, had been devastated by flood.
The union appealed for urgent intervention to help cushion the effects of the flooding that has ravaged the communities and farmlands as well as displaced many homes and businesses.
Onita commended union members for their zeal, determination and resilience to work under such flooding condition.
He, however, emphasised the need for workers at the various facilities in such areas to be assisted and provided with the necessary health and safety equipment to enable them go about their activities without any hitch.
