Rotary Club Commissions Anti-Polio Billboard In PH
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, District 9141, has commissioned a giant billboard at the Rivers State Secretariat as part of its polio eradication campaign.
According to the club, the facility was part of activities to mark the 2022 International Polio week.
The theme for this year’s week is “Healthier Families, Mother And Children”.
Past District Governor of the club, Rotarian Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, said the club was committed to the eradication of polio.
Okoro said due to the effort of the club, the number of countries with polio has been reduced, stressing that “even Nigeria has been declared polio free”.
She said the club would not rest on its oars until all countries across the world are declared polio free.
Okoro commended President Muhammadu Buhari and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for the effort to eradicate polio from the country.
Also speaking, past Assistant Governor of the club, Rotarian Adaure Ordu, said the billboard was part of the sensitisation effort of the club to eradicate polio from across the world.
She said the club would take its sensitisation to all the nooks and crannies of the society with a view to raising awareness against polio myelitis.
Ordu, who was a former President of the club, urged the people to cooperate with the club to ensure the eradication of polio.
Another former Assistant Governor of the club, Rotarian Chinese Nwaka, said the club was committed to a free polio world.
He urged the society to key into the programme of the club.
Earlier, President, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, District 9141, Rotarian Oby Ejezie, said the billboard would constantly remind people of the need to work towards a free polio world.
She said though Nigeria has been declared polio free, people must be on guard to ensure that the disease does not enter the county again.
Oby said it was in line with this that the club is embarking on regular sensitisations to keep the country free from polio.
She said the club is also taking the campaign to the rural areas of the state.
