Omuma And The Road To Greatness
Eberi-Obiohia road linking over 20 communities in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State and neighbouring Abia State communities and indeed the multimillion Ariaria International Market, Aba, Abia State had since been abandoned after the construction of Owaza/Eberi/Ofeh road project.
Indeed Omuma Local Government Area with over 56 large communities and 6 clans cannot be mentioned without the existence of Eberi/Obiohia which hosts the council headquarters.
When it is said that Omuma LGA is the food Basket of Rivers State, Eberi/Obiohia are the major key players in food production in the area, especially Obiohia, the Jerusalem of Omuma.
In the recent time, the farmers from these communities find it very difficult to transport their goods to other cities in the state, because of the bad state of the road, a situation that can discourage a farmer.
And the popular Eketa market in the area had suffered set back, due to bad road, especially where our neighbouring Ukwa, Obioma Ngwa and Osisioma Local Government Areas had interest in this market.
Last year 2010, communities like Umudu, Umuagwuozia, Umunachi, Umuagwu, Umulo, Umuakpili Okpulor to mention but a few had bumper harvest of yam, cassava, vegetables, coconut and garden eggs, but it was unfortunate that some of these products got spoiled in the hands of the farmers, because they could not transport their products to the willing buyers.
Besides, in the recent time, the traditional institution of Omuma LGA is currently been zoned, with Eze M.I. Ojiegbe as the incumbent Eze is an indigene of this area, and as a government approved traditional ruler, he receives government officials on regular basis.
Observation had revealed that most of the people who pay courtesy call on His Highness, Eze M.I. Ojiegbe complain of the state of this bad road.
During the last electioneering campaign tour in Omuma, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and his entourage experienced this at the area, after enjoying free for all ride from Owaza to Eberi Headquaters.
Because of the good charisma of His Highness, Eze M.I. Ojiegbe, who always remain thankful to God in all situations, never complain much to the authorities concern.
However, because he is a peace loving traditional ruler who does not harbour evil and evil men, he had been following the trend with due process.
Not minding the state of his road, Eberi/Obiohia road, he has been carrying out his statutory functions, as the custodian of the tradition of the people peacefully.
To crown it all, recently His Highness Eze M.I. Ojiegbe JP quieted a fake Pastor from his community (Umunachi) for not doing the work of God biblically.
According to unconfirmed source the fake pastor has been using evil means to perform God’s work, also harbouring mad people in the church and collecting money from the parents of the mad persons, a situation the Eze could no longer bear, hence he asked him out of the community. An act which is commendable.
Meanwhile the church building and premises of the supposed Christ Kingdom Message (CKM) had been donated to Assemblies of God Church, Umunachi, by the order of the Eze.
Again, Obiohia communities have many prominent sons who are in the government, such as Hon. Justice E.N. Ogbuji of the Rivers State Judiciary , Sir Christian Egbunefu former Secretary Etche LGA during the 4th Republic, Chief Emmanuel Opurum 1st Executive Chairman of Omuma LGA, Chief Bright Nwankwo former PDP Chairman Omuma LGA and Rev. Fr. Donatus Ukulor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Port Harcourt.
More importantly, Obiohia clan is the Headquarters of Catholic Parish Omuma with other churches like Assemblies of God Church 1 at Okpulor and Obiohia 11 at Umulo and St. Matthias Anglican Church Achi/Agwu.
Perhaps, it was what pushed the local government under the leadership of Hon. Uchechukwu Nwafor former CTC Chairman Omuma LGA to grade the road at this time of the rain, that now wasten the whole road.
It is short of expectations of a clan with such good number of government functionaries to suffer bad road network.
The thinking of some people in Omuma has been that though they have personalities who are in government, may be the government wants to construct Obiohia road as the highest in the state.
Therefore, because of these good services rendered to the state and local by the sons of Obiohia Clan the state and local government should help construct Eberi-Obiohia road.
