The Independent National Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued Certificates of Return (CoR) to winners of the concluded April/May general elections in Delta state.
Certificates were issued to the Delta state governor-elect, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, his Deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama, two Senatorial District candidates, nine members of the House of Representatives and 27 state House of Assembly legislators-elect.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Delta, Bayelsa and Edo states, Dr. Ishmael Igbani had disclosed that two candidates would not be issued the Certificate of Return following pending court cases, adding that until the cases are vacated in court, the affected candidate will have to wait.
Candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) candidate in Delta North Senatorial District, Prince Ned Nwoko had secured an interlocutory injunction at a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the winner of the April 9 National Assembly poll, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also, INEC did not issue certificate to the winner of the House of Assembly poll in Ughelli South constituency, Mr. Marvin Ojigho of DPP as he is locked in a legal duel with one Mr. Eme Mukoro who has filed a suit before a court sitting in Asaba over who is the legal candidate of the party (DPP) for the election.
In his address, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Gabriel Ogbudu Ada who dissociated INEC from any form of compromise described the outcome of the concluded elections in Delta state as the will of the people.
Uduaghan, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return called on Deltans to join him in fast-tracking the spate of development in the state.
