Provost of the proposed Bayelsa State College of Education, Okpoama, Dr R.K. Meindinyo told staff to get set for challenges that would be associated with effecitive running of the institution.
Meindinyo, who stated this at the end of a two-day retreat held for academic and administrative staff of the college, said the retreat was organised with the main objectives of preparing them for the task ahead as a new institution.
He stressed the need for the management to ensure the sustenance of the existing mutual relationship, and therefore stressed the need for them to live up to expectations.
He contended that this would bring the harmonious environment required in the college community necessary to build an institution of note aimed at achieving he missing link in the educational development of the state.
The Provost, expressed regret that 14 years after the creation of the state, it cannot boast of an institution for training the trainers of qualified teachers, which has resulted in the poor performance in the education sector.
While advising the participants to put of the state what they have learnt in proper use, he commended the State House of Assembly for passing the enabling Laws establishing the college.
In his speech, Chairman of Brass Local Government Council, Chief Ngo Sylva commended the State Government for its wisdom to establish the College in the area, and pledged the willingness of his council to assist the young college in any way possible.
Among dignitaries who presented paper during the retreat were Prof. Augustine Nte of Rivers State University of Education, Port Harcourt, Dr. A.O. Fediora, Dean College of Education, Warri, and Mr Ubong Bassey, Deputy Provost, Federal College of Education,Technical, Omoku.
Also at the occasion were Dr Guagha M. Berezi, Registrar and Kakate D. Tarila, Bursar of the college were among other senior staff that grace the retreat.
