Onye Ishi Etche Charges Monarchs To Uphold Cultural Heritage
The Onye Ishi Etche, His Eminence, Eze Emmanuel Opurum, has called on traditional rulers in Etche ethnic nationality to ensure the preservation and protection of the cultural heritage of the people.
The royal father made the call during a recent coronation of two Etche sons as Ngbaragida in his palace at Ndashi in Etche Local Government Area.
The Oche of Etche said that the call has become necessary following the disregard to traditional norms especially the youths in their preference to Western culture.
“Every traditional ruler knows the significance of culture. We must do everything possible to protect and guide the culture as bequeathed to us by our forebearers in the interest of peace and growth of their respective domain”, he said.
He charged the newly coronated Ngbaragidas to ensure dispensation of justice, stressing that it is the only way to attract confidence from their subjects.
Noting that the task ahead of the newly coronated Ngbaragidas is enormous, Eze Opurum said it is important to protect the cultural heritage of the people, and to also ensure that they do not compromise peace and interest of the people.
“Peace and the cultural heritage of the people which they swore to uphold must be followed and respected as they reign on the throne. No community can develop without peace and unity. So I charge them to maintain peace in their respective domain “, Opurum said.
He said, as the 2020 begins in good note, there is every need for the youths to respect the cultural heritage and to shun social vices.
The royal father said that youths of Etche have greater roles to play in the maintenance of peace and preservation of traditional norms and urged the youths to given maximum support to traditional rulers in Etche.
He stated that traditional rulers in Etche have sacrificed so much to sustain the prevalent peace being enjoyed in Etche land.
