Lawmaker Commiserates With Obudu Fire Victims
The member representing Obudu State Constituency in the Cross River House of Assembly, Hon. Godwin Akwaji has commiserated with the victims of the fire outbreak in the Obudu main market.
Recalled the unfortunate incident which occurred, 8th of August, 2019 which destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Akwaji stated that “it is very frustrating to have people set up their businesses to cater for the welfare of their families, and all of a sudden, you realize that everything you have laboured and set up a business is razed down by fire outbreak”
He called to the Acting Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA to join him for on the spot assessment of the incidence.
While advising shop owners to think of proper precautionary measures to avert future fire outbreaks, he added that “as Africans, we are engrossed in curative measures other than the acceptable preventive measures in dealing or handling our challenges.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on shop owners in Obudu to consider having fire extinguisher which will help prevent fire incidents from destroying their shops and goods like the situation we have currently”
He urged relevant authorities to always regulate electricity voltage to prevent a reoccurrence.
