Moghalu: My Votes Were Stolen
The presidential candidate for Young Progressive Party (YPP), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has said that the reason he did not challenge the declaration of Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of 2019 presidential election at the tribunal was personal and not because the people’s votes counted.
He said that he did not go to court to challenge the presidential election because he didn’t think it was the wisest action, stressing that truly the party’s votes were stolen at the poll.
Prof. Moghalu who stated this at the weekend during the launch of a book written by the Bishop of the Niger Diocese, Anambra state, Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo at Ascension Church, Isiafor, Obosi, urged the judiciary to stand firm to save democracy.
“I did not think it was the best thing to do at that time. The PDP came second at the election, they went to court! I felt that’s okay, also by the time you are not APC, you are not PDP and a small party such as we are, I said our votes were stolen and I stand by it and also said that even if all our votes properly counted, we would not have won the election.
“Nevertheless, the votes were not properly counted but I chose not go to court. It was a simple, practical decision that I made; I didn’t think it was the wisest cause of action at that time.”
On whether he has confident about the tribunal he said: “We can only hope that our judicial system will stand this test they are going through and I think we can only make that judgment at the end of the day.
“The areas President Buhari should focus on are security and economy. This country is moving, drifting into a failed state. With the security situation we have in Nigeria today, if it is not corrected the fact that the state is failing us is staring us in the face.
“We have the highest numbers of absolutely poor people; it’s a reflection of the failure of our leadership to focus on economic transformation, economic development and structurally lifting millions of people out of poverty. It takes knowledge and skill, politics won’t do it. That is technical knowhow, backed up by political will to manage the economy”.

Tinubu Flags Off 2027 Re-election Campaign In Kaduna
The campaign rally, held at the Kaduna Township Stadium, attracted Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, party leaders, federal and state lawmakers, political stakeholders and supporters from across the country.
The flag-off marks the beginning of the APC’s drive to secure a second presidential term for President Tinubu, with the party expected to promote its achievements, defend its economic reforms and outline its policy priorities under the proposed Renewed Hope 2.0 agenda.
Kaduna’s selection for the campaign launch underscores the strategic importance of the North-West, a region with a substantial voting population and considerable influence on presidential election outcomes.
The APC faces a significant challenge in Kaduna, where the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, defeated President Tinubu in the 2023 election. The rally therefore provides the ruling party an opportunity to strengthen its grassroots structures and regain electoral support in the state.
Addressing supporters, Vice-President Shettima appealed to Northern voters, highlighting President Tinubu’s political relationships with prominent Northern leaders, including Alhaji Abubakar, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Vice-President’s appeal reflects the APC’s determination to consolidate its support in the North as the party intensifies preparations for the presidential contest.
The Renewed Hope 2.0 agenda is expected to feature prominently in the campaign, providing a platform for President Tinubu to explain his administration’s economic policies and outline plans for another term.
However, the President’s record on economic reforms, rising living costs, petrol prices, employment, infrastructure and insecurity is expected to attract considerable scrutiny during the electioneering period.
