FG Moves To Privatise RBDAs
The Federal Government says it will soon commence the privatisation and commercialisation of River Basin Development Authorities in the country.
Minister of Water Resources, Engr Adama Suleiman said this during the commissioning of water project at Rumuji in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Engr Suleiman advised staff and management of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) to workout modalities on how to key into the proposed privatisation programme.
The minister also assured of adequate fundings of the activities of the Authority through better budgetary allocations and urged them to be alive to their responsibilities.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Engr. Tonye David-West said that the visit will provide opportunity for the minister to be abreast of what is happening within the past years in the authority.
Engr David-West listed some developments within the Authority to include the remodeling of the head office complex, construction of a pollution monitoring laboratory.
Installation of the new machines for the water factory capable of producing between 1200 to 1500 bottles per hour.
The upgrading of the reference library and procurement office, and the on-going rehabilitation of the 500 hectares palm plantation at Anyama Ebeni irrigation project.
The Managing Director said that the Rumuji water scheme which has a capacity of 100,000 gallons of water will serve Rumuji and the adjourning communities.
“This water scheme has three kilometres reticulation and will serve Rumuji and its neigbouring communities” he said.
In a welcome address, the paramount ruler of Rumuji Community OHNA Christian Okachineke Elechi said that the NDBDA has saved the community from waterborne diseases through the provision of water.
Ohna Elechi also stressed the need for the water project to be extended round the community.
