Monarch Lauds Wike’s Issue-Based Campaign
A traditional ruler in Rivers State, Eze Christopher Wonodi has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for advocating an issue-based campaign for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the general elections.
Wonodi, who is the Eze Mbam Abali X11/Eze Risiohia in Rebisi, Port Harcourt made the commendation in an exclusive interview with The Tide shortly after addressing some youths of the area to mark the end of year activities in Port Harcourt.
He said he was happy when he had the governor talk about issues-based campaigns, saying politics has been with us for a long time, but the way it is being practiced in Nigeria is funny, “I therefore commend the Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike for dedicating the campaigns of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to God and for advocating a campaign based on issues.
“There is no need using abusive languages during campaigns because such comments heat up the polity and cause crisis. It is high time to begin to look at issues like the governor said and I support him 100 per cent that the PDP campaigns must be based on issues,” the royal father said.
He expressed the hope that if issues take the centre stage there will be less fighting or insults, even as he called on other political parties to be guided by the example of the governor so as to help create a peaceful atmosphere for elections in the state.
On his message to Rivers youths, especially those from Rebisi he urged them to continue to be peaceful and resolute for what is right and desist from doing the bidding of self-seeking politicians.
“My message to the youths of Rebisi and Rivers State as a whole is that they should continue to be peaceful and resolute in truth and have faith in the Almighty God who makes all things possible. I know that this New Year will be better than the previous year.
“Elections are good as far as I am concerned because it affords the people the opportunity to make choices. If there are no elections it means we will remain or die in perpetuity. Therefore we should use the opportunity to make informed choices for ourselves.
“The youths should be guided in all their activities because as future leaders they should know that if this country is good it is in their interest and if it bad it is bad for them. They should begin to think of what tomorrow holds by staying focus and peaceful at all times because it may be their time to lead tomorrow,” the monarch advised.
Eze Wonodi further said that, “The ultimate end for those who involved themselves in thuggery, violence and belonging to armed gangs is death. So if one has been destined to be president or governor and the person dies, today, will that person achieve that feat again?
Most of the politicians today where as young as them several years back. So they should also prepare themselves for leadership positions by doing what is right”, he stated.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
