Community Elects Activist As Paramount Chief
A human rights activist, social critic and friend of the media, Comrade Napoleon Ordu, has been selected and crowned the Eze Nyewula (Paramount Chief, of Ubio Community in Ahoada West Local Government of Rivers State.
Chief Ordu, a former leader of Workers Union of Rivers State branch of Michelin Company scored a total of 52 votes to defeat his rival, Chief David Nwabueze Joyi who got 11 votes.
Also elected along with Chief Ordu was the Community Development Committee Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Friday.
Declaring the results at the village square, witnessed by a large crowd, the electoral committee secretary, Okechukwu Ukwe, described the election as the most transparent, free and fair in the history of the community.
Mr Ukwe urged the winner to be magnanimous in victory, by ensuring that he united everybody, ensuring developments, peace and also bringing the opponents on board so that the community would move forward.
“In every election, there is always the winners and losers, therefore I call on all the contestants to unite and work together for the interest of our community.”
Also speaking on behalf of the elders, Chief Monday Ekiye advised the new paramount chief to restore the lost glory of the community, saying the elders received the result of the election with affection.
Responding, the new Eze Nweula, Chief Napoleon Ordu, promised not to betray the trust reposed on him, by the community.
He promised to toe the line of the community on every positive decisions contending that the only way you “can assist me is through advice, suggestions and unbiased criticisms.
