Airport Gets New Security Measures
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigerian (FAAN) has evolved new measures at ensuring the security of Cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
The new measures include the control of access by both personnel and vehicles into the Cargo terminal of the airport and the stakeholders affected by the measures include officials of the Nigeria Customers Service, the Police, officials of the Aviation Handling Company Limited, Cargo clearing agents, freights forwarders and others who carry out legitimate businesses at the airport.
To drive the system, a taskforce has been set up comprising representatives of agencies and companies operating at the terminal to ensure adequate enforcement of the new measures.
FAAN has deployed three towing vehicles to the cargo terminal to remove cars that have been parked at any unathorised place while only operational vehicles that are marked are allowed entry through the gate.
To fast-track the implementation of the new measures, the board of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc, donated a patrol vehicles fitted with radio communication for proper monitoring of personnel and cargo at the terminal.
As part of the new measures, trucks will not be allowed to be parked overnight at the cargo terminal as the measures are aimed at forestalling any threat.
All security agencies at the airport have been put on alert to monitor the new security measures that are expected to improve safety of persons and aircraft at the airport.
Speaking on the development, NAHCO in a statement explained that it has taken pro-active measures aimed at improving security at its premises, facilities and the airport at large.
The company said that in a situation where security risks is becoming alarming, there is the need for stakeholders to put heads together to proffer solution on ensuring the enforcement and monitoring security at all times or our mutual benefit.
